James,
I've been using the Mundobeat a lot, and my bulerias feel has
improved at least 100 percent!!! I actually have confidence playing
it now, and I'm dropping compas less and less.
That one palo has been the most difficult rhythm for me to 'get', but
it sounds so good, and is so important, I really spend a lot of time
on it.
Anyway, I thought you'd like to hear that. Here's a bulerias pattern
that I occasionally use, with contras:
R1R1M1R1R1M1R1M1R1M1R1M1
As you can see, it uses 24 beats, and it's simply the regular modern
bulerias pattern with more activity. "R" is a low clap, "1" is a
higher clap, and "M" is a kick drum. Thinking a little less linearly,
as you suggested, led me to find that the kick drum works well as a
footstomp. I re-assign the sounds a lot too, mostly to various
claps.
Thanks a million!!! If I come up with any other interesting
programs, I'll send them your way.
Best, Dave
"I love this machine and I'm using it as a click track
on my next CD. It will be much better for recording than
anything else I have used." (translated from Spanish)

"The MundoBeat Metronome is a remarkable teaching and learning
device. My students working with MundoBeat have learned to perform
difficult flamenco rhythms in a fraction of the time of those
left to their own devices. Nothing I've seen short of a
studio filled with mean-spirited flamenco dancers can impart
the complexities of compás as well as the MundoBeat Metronome"

author of "The Keys to Flamenco Guitar".
"I had been searching for what seemed like an eternity
for a metronome that was easy to use, versatile, with enough volume
to be useful for my flamenco studies and composing. Imagine my
surprise when I discovered your amazing and valuable tool on the
internet. Now I'm addicted... my Mundobeat is always with me for
practicing, composing, recording, and touring. In fact, we used
the Mondobeat exclusively as the basic click track on our last
PolyGram CD, Badi Assad - Chameleon with stellar results! Since
we mix rhythms from diverse cultures in our music, the pre-programmed
world-beat rhythms feature is especially useful. It's like having
a really portable drum machine plus it fits right in my guitar
case, so even if we're on a song-writing sabbatical in the Brazilian
rainforest, we can still have great rhythms for jammin'. This
year, the Mundobeat has really sparked some creativity for Badi
and myself as we compose our forthcoming 2000 CD "For the Wild
at Heart Kept In Cages." Hey, does this mean we are gonna owe
you song writing royalties? All joking aside, thanks for having
the foresight and creativity to introduce such a great device.
For any musician concerned about rhythm, phrasing, and actually
playing in time... the Mundobeat is a bare necessity! Sincerely,
Jeff Scott Young."

"You have developed an invaluable tool that does two essential
services. Tempo Control, usually done with a metronome and AND Phrase
illustrator, usually only posseble with a drum machine. Most valuable
of all is that anyone can simply program a personal type of phrase
shape which enables the player to hear a particular type of articulation
exactly and perfectly over and over again - enabling him to grasp
the concept and possebilities available to him once this is mastered.
The strength of phrase delineating is not in its capability to show
you uyour mistakes, but in its powerful illustration of what your
idea can REALLY do.

"I am writing to thank you for sending me your wonderful
metronome Months ago, having been out late at a juerga, I came
home to find your package waiting in my front hall. I was exhausted,
having already played all night, but that could not keep me from
playing with the mundobeat until dawn. I was so enthralled with
this little device that before I realized it, the sun had come
up, a new day had begun (the Mundobeat) has been invaluable helping
me as I have been writing a fandango for my next album."

"The MundoBeat has improved my personal practice by waking
up the steady sense of time that occurs inside me, and by enabling

tool for serious musicians."

"Once you 'get it' you can quickly and easily program
any rhythm you need. Then tap in the tempo, you don't have to
know where to set the speed. I feel my timing has improved, even
in the few times I've used it. As well, I have internalized complex
rhythms much faster. And there's a bonus!, it keeps my 2 year
old son entertained for hours."

"What an exciting innovation, a programmable metronome!
VKO's MundoBeat is a real musical aide eliminating the redundancy
(click, click, click) of standard metronomes. It's flexible, programmable
features can reduce the learning curve of irregular meters and
complex world rhythms to a matter of minutes allowing one to feel
the pulse in their musical soul. VKO Realtime is to be highly
commended. They have even preprogrammed over 50 of the world's
most complex rhythms. This amazing device can be used in a multiplicity
of ways, for example, Big Band Swing has become the new thing.
Programming four beats with the accents used on 2 & 4 (similar
to what a drummer plays with his High Hat) allows one to expediate
the learning of the Swing Feel. Another example would be to use
the device in reading complex 16th note groupings by programming
eight beats and doubling the time value, one will simply be able
to improve their sight reading skills to a higher proficiency.
This technique was used by many great LA Studio musicians (Howard
Roberts, Carol Kaye and Tommy Tedesco). The VKO MundoBeat is a
must for every practicing musician. MundoBeat puts the music back
into the metronome! "
